In an ideal world, we’d have all three, but the world we live in is expensive. With rising health costs, food costs, its tempting to fall prey to the notion that money will buy our happiness. Allow me to suggest that health is the key to our wealth and our happiness. When we are putting our health above our financial pursuits and even sacrificing the temporary allure of our emotions, which are fleeting, I think you will find lasting prosperity.
I recently read an article written by the Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas that sparked me to write this post. Here’s an excerpt:
If God created us as material beings made in His image and gave us the mandate to cultivate the earth and fill it with His image (Gen. 1:26-28), then our bodies must have purpose.
I’ve also found in my personal life that when I feel healthy, I feel most alive, literally. I have more drive to pursue dreams, more energy and focus to grow my business, and unsurprisingly, the feeling of accomplishment and purpose that has filled my life leads to…that’s right, you’ve guessed it: happiness!
Money might buy temporary happiness, but the pursuit of it alone can also consume the most well meaning heart. Wisdom tells us to take care of our bodies and the other things will follow.
Here are two very practical ways to put your health first:
1. Take a really good, and expensive multi-vitamin. That’s right, not the cheap store bought kind, not even the generic organic brands. Eating “healthy”, exercising or crash dieting isn’t enough long term. As a nation we spend a fortune on our caffeine addiction, on our mortgage payments, dining out, shopping and transportation, but we cringe at spending $100 or more per month on vitamins or supplements that keep us fueled and healthy. Taking well researched, well documented, well sourced, quality controlled, time tested supplementation could mean the difference between a lifetime of illness or a lifetime of health. When my family switched to Shaklee, I could physically feel the difference. The days that I forget, or am too busy to stop and take my supplements, I am exhausted, drained and unfocused. I’m easily overwhelmed, impatient and frustrated. Our Shaklee Vitalizer Strips have convinced us. The proof is in the pudding. Shaklee does it better than the rest. They have over 30 years of science to back them up. Don’t just take my word for it…if you’re still not convinced, here’s some research to prove it:
2. Drink water…and drink some more. Our bodies are made up of 60 percent water. Replenishing that supply is vital to our health. Here’s some very scary numbers: According to the USDA, of individuals age 2 years and over in the U.S. drink some plain water. The average daily intake is 3.9 cups per individual. Thats only about one quarter of the recommended daily intake for a full grown adult. Water fuels so much of our bodies, and for MOST people in the U.S., clean drinking water is accessible. Water lubricates our joints, increases brain power and energy, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins, improves our complexion, maintains regularity, boosts our immune system, prevents headaches, prevents muscle cramping, regulates body temperature, prevents back aches, improves your heart health, promotes good breath, and puts you in a better mood.So why do we put such little effort into drinking water? Set a timer, stick a post it on your computer monitor at work, do anything you can, but DRINK more water.
I urge you to put your health first. All the other things will fall into place. You only have one body and if you don’t have your health and your life, no amount of money will buy your happiness.
